Due to my working hours, l can’t be home when my son’s come from school, so either they will call me at work. When my son’s and I converse generally we talk about the events of their day. recently my oldest son (13) calls and tells me of a bully who has called him names and my son is asking what he should do how should he respond. It was during this conversation as I was giving him fatherly advice that the words of Jesus from John 15 ran though my mind-
18 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you;
And even as I talked to my son I pondered the words of Jesus in my heart, an again thoughts of an earlier conversation as I shared the gospel with a co-worker (he received Christ as savior) several years back. I remember telling him as a new Christian that he would face hardships and I referenced John 15: 18-20 also he must endure those hardships as a good soldier of Jesus Christ 2Timothy 2:3,4. I remember instructing him that being a Christian is not an easy walk and that he will have trouble.
Many may tell you “give your life to Christ and everything will be alright, no more trouble, no more worries Jesus will take care of it all”
Smooth sailing, pie in the sky, I don’t think so. Jesus also said
9 “Then they’ll hand you over to suffer and will kill you, and you’ll be hated by all the nations on account of my name.
We set people up for a fall when we tell that thing will be better when they give their life to Christ because Empty words — shallow preachers — hollow vessels will not bring forth faithful endurance. Eventually life’s hardships may change though prayer, supplication, and a changed world view though God’s grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Too many people — men and women — have lost faith in God, because they hear EMPTY WORDS PREACHED AND PROCLAIMED.
But I’ll tell you to hold on, things may get better but know that there will be a struggle for you have an adversary so:
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.8 Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him firmly in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.10 But after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
