In our culture today we are enticed with our on fascination of the occult, before you disagree I ask you to browse the most popular books, entertainment, and your internet movie guide for 2000 to 2016.
We emphasis on "We" are enamored with anything involving, or relating to supernatural, mystical, or magical powers or phenomena, from "My little pony, Frozen, Harry Potter, to a weeping statue, mutant X men, and the Avengers. Our fascination with such things I believe have crept even into our worship service. Have you noticed that many church congregations are increasingly seeking after more and more signs and wonders?
Scripture (Mark 16-17) speaks of signs accompanying those who believe. Yes Jesus states: 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. In contrast Jesus also rebuked those for always seeking a sign in Matt. 12:38-40, Mark 8:12 and John 4:48.
The purpose of becoming mature in Christ is to gain discernment with regards to truth and error. Jesus Himself warned us not to be deceived. He foretold of deception coming on the world that was so tricky to discern that even the very elect may be deceived. Matt. 24:24, Mark 13:22, 2 Thess. 3-12
I m not saying don't look for or expect signs or miracles from God for they still occur, I 'm emphasizing having Gods discernment of true miracles from mysticism, superstition and lying wonders.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
